It is important to know that to benefit from psychotherapy you do not need to be in crisis or have a mental health issue.
Individual and group therapy can provide opportunities for you to explore your life experiences, from personal development and growth to difficult mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, traumatic events, chronic suicidality, loss, separation, chronic/acute illness and relationship issues.
I offer individual and group face-to-face and online sessions for adults and face-to-face sessions for children and youth in Edmonton and Vancouver. I also provide clinical art therapy supervision to students and graduates.
Throughout the year I do facilitate groups for art therapy supervision and groups for healing and growth and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Skills groups.
There are many different types of group therapy. The groups I offer are therapeutic; psycho-educational or focus on growth and development. Therapeutic group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a select number of clients meet to describe and discuss their problems together under the supervision of a therapist. The purpose of therapeutic group therapy is to assist individuals to gain deeper self-awareness by listening to others with similar issues. Psycho-educational groups on the other hand focus on assisting individuals to learn new skills to replace and change unwanted or maladaptive behaviours.
I offer Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Skill groups for adults. The other groups I offer are for growth and development. This type of group provides individuals opportunities to meet other members with similar interests to explore through art materials and potentially process life experiences.
This area of work is developed for student and professional art therapists seeking supervision to improve their practice and graduate or become registered in Canada or within their province. Any student registered in a full-time approved art therapy program in Canada will require clinical art therapy supervision.
Supervision for students can be provided within the program they are registered or through a private clinical supervisor. Students require 1 hour of supervision to every 10 client hours totalling 350 client contact hours to graduate. Similarly, once graduated a professional art therapist seeking registration will require 1 hour of supervision to every 20 client contact hours totalling 50 hours of clinical art therapy supervision through a private registered art therapist.
