Insurance Benefits

Some insurance benefit providers cover the cost of individual therapy sessions such as Blue Cross, Sun Life and Canada Life. Most provide for reimbursement of the therapy fees up to a maximum annual amount. Currently, I am not billing insurance companies directly. However, many providers have mobile phone apps that can process your claim and reimburse you quickly. Please contact your company’s HR department to determine your coverage.

Cancellation & Missed Appointment Policy

Counsellors take clients and their appointments seriously. Your appointment is for your exclusive use and when it is cancelled with short notice or missed altogether, it is often too late or impossible to offer this time to someone else and the appointment goes unfilled.

Individual Therapy

It is important to know that to benefit from psychotherapy you do not need to be in crisis or have a mental health issue. Individual and group therapy can provide opportunities for you to explore your life experiences. This can include therapy for personal development and growth; or to address difficult mental health challenges such as traumatic events, anxiety, depression, loss, separation, chronic/acute illness and relationship issues. An important aspect of therapy to consider is your willingness to commit to your treatment goals and be prepared to work on changing your thoughts, behaviour and actions as well as address the traumatic events in your life. I offer individual and group face-to-face and virtual sessions for children, youth and adults in Edmonton and Vancouver.

Group Therapy

There are many different types of group therapy. The groups I offer fall into three categories: therapeutic; psycho-educational or focused on growth and development. Therapeutic group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a select number of clients meet to describe and discuss their problems together under the supervision of a therapist. The purpose of therapeutic group therapy is to assist participants to develop a deeper self-awareness of self by reflecting and listening to others with similar issues. Psycho-educational groups on the other hand focus on assisting individuals to learn new skills to replace and change unwanted or maladaptive behaviours. I do offer throughout the year Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Skill groups for adults. The other groups I offer are for growth and development. This type of group provides individuals opportunities to meet other members with similar interests to explore through art materials and potentially process life experiences.

Supervision

This area of work is developed for student and professional Art Therapists seeking supervision to improve their practice and graduate or become Registered in Canada or within their province. Any student registered in a full-time approved art therapy program in Canada will require clinical art therapy supervision. Supervision for students can be provided within the program they are registered or through a private clinical supervisor. Students require 1 hour of supervision for every 10 client hours totalling 350 client contact hours to graduate. Similarly, once graduated a professional Art Therapist seeking registration will require 1 hour of supervision for every 20 client contact hours totalling 50 hours of clinical art therapy supervision through a private registered Art Therapist.
